Items Floating in Flood Damage in Oyster Bay Basement
It is never a good sign when SERVPRO techs arrive on-site to an Oyster Bay flood damage cleanup call and find floating items. The storm drains became overwhelmed, backed up water into the basement. The techs used their truck-mounted pump to pull out the water quickly so they could begin drying the cinderblock walls and concrete flooring. Fortunately, the homeowner elevated the water heater and furnace previously, and they were not affected by the floodwater. After drying, the techs wiped down the surfaces and cleaned the remaining white, powdery efflorescence off the substrate; it is a natural reaction of concrete that has been wet and dried as the salts rise to the surface. Once completed, the basement was ready for use by the homeowner again.
