Best Nature Walk of Oyster Bay Long Island
The original settlers in the area date back to 1639 when the Dutch West India Company made its first purchase. The Muttontown Preserve, one of many things to do in the area, consists of five hundred and fifty acres of woodlands, fields, ponds, and common grounds and is considered one of the gorgeous settings to visit in our area. Visitors can enjoy themselves during every season. There are extensive walking areas where patrons can observe the natural surroundings:
- Local wildflowers
- Trees
- Birds
- Mammals
- Reptiles and
- Amphibians
Wintertime brings cross country skiing enthusiasts. Visitors can visit the Chelsea Estate winter and summer to enjoy the variety of natural life and history. A portion of the land was acquired in 1951 previously owned by King Zog, the last of Albania's monarchy. He left Albania in 1939 after Albania was invaded by Italy. However, he remained in Europe, never having lived here.
